We’re celebrating our changing seasons with three different massage stories for spring. These seasonal massages have been shared by children in school assemblies, special events and the family home. Perhaps these stories will inspire you to create your own?

Sensory Spring Story Massage

Spring has arrived (The Calm)

And the flowers are growing (The Fan)

Can you smell the daffodils and bluebells? (The Wave)

Can you hear the birds singing? (The Sprinkle)

Can you see the little lambs jumping in the fields? (The Bounce)

The sun in the sky is warming the land (The Circle)

Soon summer will be here. (The Calm)

Rhyming Spring Story Massage

New growth, new life – it’s the season of Spring (The Fan)

Baby chicks and birds with a happy song to sing. (The Sprinkle)

Pussy willows and catkins decorate the trees (The Claw)

And fine, floral scents sweeten the breeze. (The Wave)

Bunnies and bonnets, so joyful and bright (The Drum)

With chocolate and treats hidden well out of sight. (The Squeeze)

Lambs frolic in the fields, up and down they go (The Bounce)

And all those boiled eggs to paint, roll or throw. (The Circle)

Easter parades and family fun (The Walk)

With memories to share for years to come. (The Calm)

What Season am I?

I see the sunshine (The Circle)

I smell the flowers (The Bounce)

I feel the April rain showers (The Sprinkle)

I see butterflies (The Fan)

And hear the trees (The Fan)

Dancing along on the breeze (The Wave)

What season am I? (The Calm)

More about the Story Massage Programme

The Story Massage Programme combines the benefits of positive, respectful touch with the creativity and engagement of storytelling. Ten basic massage strokes are the foundation of the programme. These strokes have a simple name, such as The Circle or The Sprinkle, and an easy to recognise symbol making it accessible for all. It is a fully inclusive activity, no clothing is removed and no oil is used. Stories can be taken from our Story Massage book, adapted from favourite stories or songs or you can create your own massage stories – whatever the weather!

“The creative/literacy benefits for the children are limitless. We can easily link the Story Massage Programme into our topic and curriculum as a whole school approach. Giving a child the option to write a massage story also takes away any possible exclusion from the session if the child does not want to be touched either through peer massage or self-massage.” Hazel Cunningham, Relax Kids Coach and Independent Nurture Practitioner
