Who can attend our online training course?
Everyone can attend our online course! It is open to everyone with an interest in positive touch activities for children and adults including teachers in mainstream and special schools, physiotherapists, play therapists, Relax Kids coaches, care workers, therapists, baby massage instructors, MISP instructors, parents and grandparents…..
Do I get a certificate?
The course is designed for Continuing Professional and Personal Development (CPD) as an extension of current skills, work and experience. All participants will be issued with a certificate for their own personal or professional use.
The wording on the certificate will depend on your prior qualifications and experience – and where you are planning to use the Story Massage Programme. We now have such a wonderful variety of people using the programme in many different kinds of settings. This is why we are always happy to answer your specific questions. Every situation is so different!
Our two certificates are:
- Certificate of Completion. This is issued to teachers, care workers, teaching assistants, learning mentors, parents, grandparents and others who do not require specific insurance to use the Story Massage Programme in their work or home. It is also issued to independent practitioners and therapists wishing to use the Story Massage Programme within their current work on a one-to-one basis with children, adults or individual families.
- Story Massage Instructor. This is issued to independent practitioners and therapists planning to gain insurance to run Story Massage groups such as peer massage sessions in schools, family groups, after-school clubs, library sessions or Baby Story Massage groups. Please note this is not a qualification to train others to use the Story Massage Programme in the workplace. There are only two Story Massage Programme trainers – Mary Atkinson and Sandra Hooper.
How can I get a Story Massage Instructor Certificate?
In order to receive this certificate and special logo you will need to have a qualification that includes a component in sharing massage, reflexology or yoga with groups of children or families. Some of the recognised qualifications that fulfil the criteria are below but please contact us as others will also be accepted. We also take into account prior experience:
MISP (Massage in Schools Programme), Impact (Kind Hands) or Relax Kids Coach
Light Touch Reflexology for Babies, Toddlers and Children or Baby Reflex
Infant Massage Instructor or Baby Massage Instructor
Baby Yoga Instructor or ITEC Diploma in Infant and Child Massage
After completing the online course, we charge a small fee of £25 for administration of your Story Massage Instructor Certificate. In addition to the course assessment questions, we ask you to send us a short video for assessment. Here is an example of a video from a student who has now qualified as a Story Massage Instructor.
Certificates of Completion can be changed to Story Massage Instructor if you gain the necessary qualifications within 3 years of completing the Story Massage Programme course.
